Ripples of the Past available everywhere now

Happy Friday all,

Today is the day. My fourth studio album, Ripples of the Past, is now available in full on music platforms everywhere. Stream the album on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, etc. Or, more powerfully, purchase the album digitally or on physical CD via Bandcamp now.

I’m thrilled to be sharing this album with you in its entirety. As I have shared previously and elsewhere, this project is special to me for a plethora of reasons. It’s the very first collection of songs I’ve written with a guitar in my hand, eight of them written over an eight-day encounter that completely enraptured me a year ago last September. Every song is a reflection on some of the most significant relationships, epiphanies, memories, and milestones of my life. And it is my first indie folk album, perhaps the most intimate and understated work I’ve ever shared. Huge shoutout to my producer/engineer/friend Brandon Adams for bringing these songs to life.

I thank you for taking this journey with me, and I hope the music reaches and carries you the same way it has carried me over these past twelve months.

I’ll leave you with the lyrics to the title track, “Ripples of the Past,” a song that I see as one of the most definitive songs I’ve ever been blessed to write. As a songwriter, one of my driving motivations is to craft songs that feel timeless, that tell universal truths, that feel beyond me. Much like with “Make It with Me,” I am honored to hold up this song as one such achievement. May we all find inspiration, guidance, and empowerment in the ripples of the past….

[Verse 1]
In the ground that we’re breaking
In the hours we’re waking
We feel connected through the ripples of the past
From the music worth making
To the bread that we’re baking
We feel connected through the ripples of the past

[B-Section 1]
Let us not forsake the forebears who have gone
As their memory is foundational to the work we carry on
Every strife echoes like phases of the sun

[Verse 2]
From the roads that we’re paving
To attachments we’re craving
We are connected through the ripples of the past
In the truth that we’re saving
Persecution we’re staving
We are connected through the ripples of the past

[B-Section 2]
Let us not forsake the forebears who have gone
As their memory has implications for the work that must be done
Every struggle faced has once before been won

[Verse 3]
Every mountain we’re climbing
Moments we are defining
We stay connected through the ripples of the past
In the light we keep shining
And the love we’re refining
We stay connected through the ripples of the past

- Ray

Ray Curenton - The Year That Changed Everything

Friends, I’ve been trying to complete the song I’ve just released today since 2013. It can be very difficult to release painful memories and emotions into words, to give voice to those words, and then to find the courage to share that voice with the world. Each song that I’ve shared from this new album has been a similar kind of trust fall: trusting myself enough as a communicator of my own story, and trusting you all to have open ears and hearts to hear it. But this song in particular is...
